The Flagtail Pepper Cory (Corydoras paleatus) also known as the longfin pepper cory, is one of the most well loved bottom-dwellers in the aquarium hobby. Known for its charming personality and “peppered” black mottled pattern. Growing to about 7 cm they are a hardy addition to the lower levels of your tank.
These are highly social fish, we strongly recommend a group of 6 to 10. They are incredibly hardy but they do require a soft sand substrate or smooth gravel to protect their sensitive barbels (whiskers) as they sift for food.
The flagtail pepper cory are peaceful community residents, getting along with everything from tiny shrimp to larger tetras. They are excellent “cleanup assistants,” spending their day vacuuming the aquarium floor for uneaten food. To keep them in peak condition, feed them sinking catfish pellets, algae wafers, and occasional live or frozen treats like bloodworms or tubifex worms.
