The Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy female (Poecilia reticulata) is a designer variant that brings a unique look to the aquarium. While female guppies are often overlooked in favour of their male counterparts, the Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy strain is a striking exception. Their oversized, wing-like pectoral fins flutter gracefully as they swim. These females display a “Mosaic” pattern on their tails, a beautiful, marbled or lace-like design in shades of blue, purple, or black that contrasts sharply against their shimmering silvery-grey bodies.
As social livebearers, they are much happier and more active when kept in groups. While the standard rule for schooling is six, we suggest keeping a group of 8–12 females to see them at their most confident. They are exceptionally hardy and adaptable, thriving in a pH range of 7.0–8.5 and preferring moderate to hard water.
Since they are active explorers and surface feeders, the Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy should be fed high-quality flakes and micro-pellets. To support their growth and the development of their vibrant tail patterns, supplemental feedings of frozen daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms are highly recommended.
