The Marlboro Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) is a charming colour morph, known for its solid, unpatterned red-to-orange body.Unlike many other Discus, the Marlboro discus is prized for its clean, uniform colour and its often contrasting white or yellowish face. These are in the 6-7 cm size range but grow up to 15–20 cm.
As a rule, for schooling fish you should keep at least six, but we strongly suggest a group of 8–10 Discus to keep them feeling safe and confident. They need a stable pH of 6.0–7.0 and warm, pristine water (28°C–30°C) to stay healthy. Good water quality is non-negotiable. Marlboro discus are sensitive to nitrates, so frequent water changes are essential to keep their colours vibrant and their immune systems strong.
When choosing tankmates, avoid choosing boisterous or nippy fish that might disturb their calm nature or outcompete them for resources. Because they are deliberate, slow eaters, they do best with food that settles slowly or rests on clean surfaces. Their favourite meals include high-quality beef heart, frozen bloodworms, enriched brine shrimp, and specialised slow-sinking discus granules.
