The Albino Leopard Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) is highly sought after for its striking contrast and bright, clear aesthetic. This premium variety features a creamy, pinkish-white base body completely covered in a dense, intricate maze of brilliant ruby-red spots and striations. Because they carry the albino gene, they possess glowing pinkish-red eyes and are entirely free of dark “peppering” or vertical stress bars.
As a rule, you keep at least six to manage their natural hierarchy, but we strongly suggest a group of 8–10 Discus to ensure they feel safe and confident. They require a stable pH of 6.0–7.0 and very warm, pristine water, of 28°C–30°C to stay healthy. Good water quality is non-negotiable. They are sensitive to nitrates, frequent water changes are essential.
Avoid housing them with fast-moving or aggressive fish that might nip their fins or steal their food. Because they are slow, methodical eaters, you should provide a variety of high-protein foods that they can graze on at their own pace. Their favourite meals include frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, beef heart and Discus pellets.
