API Melafix

API Melafix is an antibacterial treatment made from purified Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca) with toxic and insoluble agents removed. It works effectively on common bacterial problems like open wounds, abrasions, tail rot, eye cloud, and mouth fungus while promoting the regrowth of damaged fins and tissue. If you want to move away from pharmaceutical products and lessen the risk of microbial resistance, Melafix is a fantastic option. It will not disrupt the fertility of breeding fish, and in our experience, it does not harm tough, thick-leaved plants such as Anubias and Amazon Swords. It is a great product to have on hand when adding new fish to a tank, running quarantine protocols (also for external bacteria), or healing damaged or torn fins.

Because it contains natural oils, make sure to increase aeration if you are treating a heavily stocked tank. Keep in mind that Melafix is a gentle remedy meant for mild cases and disease prevention, so it must be used regularly as directed on the bottle. Surface foaming during treatment is completely normal. While safe for most fish, keep a closer eye on more sensitive species like Chili Rasboras or Bettas while dosing.
