The Red Cover Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) is an absolute showstopper, with its solid, intense reddish-brown to deep ruby-red body that extends seamlessly across its entire form.  This premium variety is highly prized because it lacks the dark bars found in wild strains, and has an expanse of rich colour that heavily contrasts with its striking white or bright red eyes. Originally rooted in the warm, slow-moving floodplains of the Amazon River Basin, this majestic cichlid brings an unparalleled, warm radiance to the mid-levels of a large aquascape.

They are schooling fish by nature, so we strongly suggest keeping them in a group of at least 5–6 individuals to ensure they feel secure and establish a healthy social structure. They are highly sensitive to water quality and thrive best in warm, soft, and slightly acidic water with a stable pH of 6.0–7.0. To maintain their  health, a dedicated routine of regular water changes and a high-capacity filtration system is non-negotiable.

Avoid housing them with fast, boisterous, or aggressive fish that might bully them or relentlessly steal their food during mealtime. Since they are slow, deliberate feeders that like to graze peacefully in the mid-water column, try feeding high-protein sinking granules or slow-sinking flakes. Their favourite meals include clean frozen bloodworms, enriched brine shrimp, and premium beef heart mixes.
