The Snow White Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) is an ethereal and breathtaking variety, admired for its solid, pristine, perfectly white body. Originally rooted in the warm, slow-moving floodplains of the Amazon River Basin, this high-grade selectively bred variety brings an unmatched, serene elegance to the mid-levels of a large display aquarium.
They are highly social creatures, so we strongly suggest keeping them in a group of at least 6 individuals to ensure they feel secure and establish a healthy social structure. They are very sensitive to water quality and happiest in warm, soft, and slightly acidic water with a stable pH of 6.0–7.0. To maintain their colour and health, a dedicated routine of regular water changes alongside a high-capacity filtration system is needed.
Avoid housing them with fast, hyperactive tank mates or aggressive fin-nippers, which can easily stress them or outcompete them during mealtime. Since they are slow, meticulous mid-water feeders that like to take their time grazing, feed high-protein sinking granules or specialised discus pellets. Their favourite meals include clean frozen bloodworms, enriched brine shrimp, and premium beef heart .
