The Orange Medaka Ricefish (Oryzias latipes), with touches of warm orange is a cheerful addition to the aquarium. This peaceful fish thrives in planted tanks with floating plants. Reaching an adult size of 3cm, these little fish are hardy enough for your pond and have a size and temperament perfectly suited for nano aquariums and community setups.
These fish are peaceful and stay active throughout the day. To see their best behavior and most vivid colors, it is best to keep them in a school of 8 or more. Like other Medaka varieties, the Orange Medaka can tolerate a massive temperature range, making them one of the few species that can live in both tropical indoor tanks and outdoor water features.
They are not demanding regarding water chemistry, doing well in a pH between 7.0–8.5. They have upturned mouths, they are specialized surface feeders and will eagerly accept floating micro-pellets, crushed flakes, and freeze-dried treats like brine shrimp.
