The Red and blue Half-moon Betta Fish (Betta splendens) is distinguished by its contrasting velvety white, almost painted looking body and bright red tail and fins that fan out to a full 180 degrees. Reaching an adult size of 6–7 cm, Originally from the shallow, warm waters of Southeast Asia, they bring a visually engaging element to the mid-to-upper levels of the aquarium.
The Red and blue Half-moon Betta Fish are best kept alone, but we strongly recommend a tank of at least 20 litres with a low-flow filter to protect their delicate, heavy fins. They are often sold in small bowls, but they actually need a heated and filtered environment to stay healthy and active. They are hardy and can handle a pH range of 6.5–7.5, but they truly thrive in warm, stable conditions.
Avoid housing your Red and blue half-moon betta fish with any tank mates that are nippy, which may damage the Betta’s spectacular tail. Since they are surface-oriented insectivores with a labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe air, feed floating pellets that won’t sink too quickly. Their favourite meals include frozen or live bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
