The Golden/Yellow Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) is a bright discus colour variatian celebrated for its solid, brilliant butteryellow to deep golden-amber body. It’s natural origins are rooted in the warm, slow-moving floodplains of the Amazon River Basin, this selectively bred variety is an elegant addition to the mid-levels of a large display aquarium.
Discus fish are a highly social species, so we strongly suggest keeping them in a group of at least 5–6 individuals to reduce stress and let them establish a peaceful social order. They thrive in warm, soft, and slightly acidic to neutral water with a stable pH of 6.0–7.0. Because they love consistent and immaculate water conditions, a regular routine of large water changes and high-capacity filtration is essential to maintain their glowing health and smooth skin texture.
Avoid housing them with hyperactive tank mates or aggressive fin-nippers, which might startle them or steal their food before they get a chance to eat. Since they are slow, meticulous mid-water feeders that like to inspect their meals, feed your golden/yellow discus high-quality sinking granules or discus pellets. Their favourite meals include frozen beef heart mixes, bloodworms, and brine shrimp, which provide the essential nutrients needed to keep their warm, sunny colouration looking incredibly vibrant.
