Orange Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) bring warm, vivid energy to any nano or planted aquarium. Hand-sorted from our breeding colonies, these culls offer solid orange colouring at an accessible price, colour may be lighter or less uniform than our Sakura-grade oranges, but they’re lively, healthy shrimp that make a real impact in a well-planted tank. Ours range from 1–1.5 cm at sale and grow to 2.5–3 cm.

We keep all our Neocaridina at a TDS of 180–220 and 22°C – fully conditioned to South African tap water and easy to acclimate. A starting group of ten or more makes them significantly bolder and more visible, handling a pH of 6.5–8.0 with moderate to high GH essential for clean moulting and exoskeleton strength.

Avoid any fish large enough to view them as food. As natural scavengers they’ll graze biofilm and algae across every surface, supplemented with sinking algae wafers, shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and the organic matter that naturally builds up on driftwood and leaf litter. If you’re buying Orange Cherry Shrimp in South Africa, these are a brilliant, budget-friendly starting point for any shrimp setup.

Quick Care Tips

  • Social: Keep in groups of ten or more; they are far more active and visible when supported by the security of a larger colony.
  • Environment: They flourish in tanks with fine-leaved plants and aquatic mosses, which provide essential hiding spots and large surface areas for grazing on biofilm.
  • Diet: While they are effective algae eaters, they require calcium-rich sinking pellets and specialised shrimp foods to support healthy moulting and shell development.
