The Supreme Red Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), also known as the Bloody Mary, is a significant step up from standard cherry reds – deeply and solidly coloured, with vivid red coverage across the full body and legs that are either a rich light red or transparent, rather than the pale or patchy tones of cull-grade stock. The name says it all: these are striking, highly visible shrimp that genuinely command attention in a planted tank.
Locally bred or well-quarantined imported stock, our Supreme Red Shrimp range from 1–1.5 cm at sale and are kept at a TDS of 180–220 and 22°C, fully conditioned to South African tap water. Start with at least ten, they forage more confidently and display their best colour in a group, thriving in a pH of 6.5–8.0 with moderate to high GH for healthy exoskeleton development.
Keep tank mates small and peaceful – these are too beautiful to risk with inquisitive or predatory fish. As committed scavengers they’ll graze constantly and respond well to sinking algae wafers, specialised shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and natural biofilm on driftwood and leaf litter. Supreme Red Shrimp are a clear step up in quality, and it shows the moment they’re in the tank.
