The Yellow Cherry Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) is a bright, cheerful addition to the freshwater aquarium, known for its vibrant lemon-to-golden coloration. These dwarf shrimp grow up to 3 cm long and are highly valued not just for their “pop” of color, but for their tireless work as algae eaters.
We strongly suggest starting with a colony of 10–12 yellow cherry shrimp. They are social scavengers and are much more active and visible when they feel safe in numbers. They are incredibly hardy and adaptable, thriving in a pH range of 6.5–8.0. They appreciate a stable environment, but they specifically require moderate water hardness (GH) to provide the minerals necessary for healthy molting and shell development.
They are peaceful and do exceptionally well with nano-fish like Ember Tetras or Pygmy Corydoras. They should also be fed specialised shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and high-quality algae wafers. Their bright yellow hue creates a stunning visual contrast against dark soil or bright green plants.
