The GloFish Tetra is a neon, color-enhanced version of the hardy Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi). These colors are achieved by incorporating genes from jellyfish, sea anemones, or other organisms that produce natural fluorescent proteins into the DNA of the tetras. These fish are fluorescent under blacklight (UV light), so having blacklight LEDs or a similar UV light source is ideal to bring out their glowing colors. Reaching an adult size of about 5 cm, they possess a distinct, deep-bodied shape and an energetic personality.
Tetras are known to drop quickly, but ours are tough! we strongly suggest a school of 10–12 GloFish Tetras. These tetras are bold, active swimmers that aren’t afraid to take center stage. They are exceptionally hardy and adaptable, thriving in a pH range of 6.0–8.0, making them an ideal choice for beginners or those looking for a low-maintenance but high-impact display.
They are very active , avoid housing them with very slow-moving fish or those with long, flowing fins that might be tempting to nip. They are unfussy eaters and will eagerly accept flakes and small pellets. Supplement their diet with frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms.
