The Panda Corydora ( Corydoras panda ) is one of the most charming bottom-dwellers, named for the distinct black patches over its eyes that mimic a giant panda. These playful catfish also feature a black band at the base of their tail and a dark dorsal fin against a creamy, off-white body. Reaching about 5 cm in length, they are famous for their high-energy personalities.
Social fish usually should be kept in groups of at least six, but we strongly suggest a group of 8–12 Panda Corys. They are incredibly social and are happiest kept in larger numbers. They are peaceful community fish. They prefer slightly cooler water than some tropical fish, flourishing in temperatures between 22°C–25°C, and thrive in a pH range of 6.0–7.5.
A sandy substrate is recommended to protect their sensitive whiskers (barbels) as they forage. While they are excellent at cleaning up leftover morsels, they need their own specialized diet to stay plump. Their favorite meals include sinking catfish pellets, frozen bloodworms, and live blackworms.
