The Venezuela Cory (Corydoras aeneus ‘Venezuela’), also known as the Orange Venezuelan Cory, is one of the most color-rich members of the Corydoras family. This variety is prized for its deep, burnt-orange coloration on the shoulders and back, which darkens with age. Growing up to 6cm long, they are a stocky, energetic species that brings both high-intensity color and constant activity to the aquarium floor.
A general rule with schooling fish is to start with a small group of six. They are exceptionally hardy and can handle a wide pH range from 6.0–7.5, making them an easy addition to most community tanks. They appreciate a well-planted environment, but their priority is always the quality of the substrate.
A sandy substrate is essential to prevent damage to their delicate sensory barbels. While they will scavenge for leftover morsels, they should be fed a dedicated diet to maintain their deep orange glow. Their favourite meals include sinking catfish pellets, frozen bloodworms, and live blackworms, as well as protein-rich wafers that reach the bottom of the tank.
